Ban non-consensual explicit deepfakes

With AI technology, anyone can turn your photos into realistic "deepfake" images or videos. When the deepfakes are explicit, and generated without consent, this is a harmful and traumatic form of abuse.

Principals say deepfake abuse is already a rising problem at New Zealand schools.

Laura McClure has a bill in Parliament's ballot to ban the production and distribution of non-consensual and explicit deepfakes.

She has asked the Minister of Justice to adopt this as Government legislation, and is calling on parties across Parliament to support her bill to a debate immediately.
