Keep agriculture in the curriculum
Sign the petition to keep Agricultural and Horticultural Science as a standalone Year 11 subject.
New Zealand is a food and fibre producing nation. Our schools should give young Kiwis the opportunity to learn about the industry that drives our exports, supports our communities, and offers rewarding careers.
Removing agriculture as a standalone Year 11 subject sends the wrong message and leaves a gap for schools with established agricultural programmes.
This matters to urban students too. Over the past nine years, more than 111,000 students have studied Agricultural and Horticultural Science across 359 schools. Almost two-thirds of those taking the subject attend urban schools. For many, it may be their only structured opportunity to learn how our food is produced and discover a career in the sector.
