End voting rights for unelected council appointees

Unelected appointees are being given voting rights on local council committees, allowing them to make decisions about ratepayer money without ever facing voters.

New Zealanders deserve a system where those making decisions are accountable at the ballot box, not appointed behind closed doors.

Cameron Luxton has drafted an amendment to the Local Government Act to stop unelected appointees from holding voting rights on local council committees, and we need your support to ensure this proposal is adopted into law.

“I call on Parliament to amend the Local Government Act to end voting rights for unelected council appointees.”
